MagNa

Recovering valuable resources from seawater brines

Project website

MagNa

The MagNa project, co-financed by the European Commission’s EIT Raw Materials program, boosts a circular economy model to transform brines generated in seawater desalination into high-value raw materials.

Desalination is an increasingly widespread solution to guarantee industrial water supply, but it also produces brines with a high concentration of salts. MagNa converts this environmental challenge into an opportunity through innovative technology capable of recovering high-purity magnesium hydroxide and sodium chloride.

These raw materials, essential for the chemical industry, are currently imported in large quantities from outside the European Union. With MagNa, Europe advances toward greater autonomy in the supply of strategic resources, while proposing a new model for brine management thanks to its sustainable and circular approach.
