Real-time monitoring of pollution in urban drainage and sewerage systems for the protection of receiving waters
Urban growth and climate change are testing the resilience of urban drainage systems, as heavy rainfall events can generate discharges of untreated water into natural environments, with significant environmental impacts.
The LIFE RUBIES project, co-funded by the European Commission’s LIFE programme, seeks to demonstrate advanced real-time monitoring strategies to optimise the operation of urban drainage networks and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), reducing both the frequency of untreated wastewater discharges and the volumes and pollutant loads discharged.
To achieve this, LIFE RUBIES will implement the methodologies developed in the LIFE EFFIDRAIN project on the advanced monitoring platform AQUADVANCED UD® (AQDV UD), a real-time monitoring and control system already deployed in several water operators, improving water treatment efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
