HUELLA HÍDRICA AGUAS ANDINAS

Study of calculation and definition of mitigation targets for Aguas Andinas’ water and carbon footprints.

Water footprint analysis was conducted for Aguas Andinas. Based on the methodology of the Water Footprint Network (WFN), a total volume of 905.8 Hm3 was observed for 2018, of which 86% corresponds to water abstractions for supply. This tells us that the production of 1 litre of water has a Water Footprint of 1.18 litres. Meanwhile, we updated the methodology used in previous years to determine the 2018 Carbon Footprint. A total of 216,601 Ton CO2 eq/year is produced, which is a reduction of 1% from 2017.

Further, Science-Based Targets (SBT) have been defined, an initiative promoted by the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which encourages companies to reduce their emissions. There are currently only four water companies in the world that do so, and Aguas Andinas is the only one that orients its goals towards the 1.5°C target.
